Dances with History intends
to bring to light not only the period of Portuguese
Expansion , but also the aesthetic, artistic and
humanistic dimension of the Portuguese Renaissance.
Comprising several
generations, this group, pursues the calling forth of
courtly society of that époque, by portraying the presence
of the Portuguese Court in the 16th century,
recollecting the social graces of the bygone costumes and
performing Renaissance dances in their original
choreography.
The group has ongoing
activity since its beginning in June 2000 with the
educational services of the Sintra National Palace in the
entertainment of field trips.
The
group’s participation in debates, seminars and in medieval
and Renaissance dance workshops has contributed to the
illustration of the social ambiance of that time and of
the importance of dance in enhancing the display of power
in the Renaissance courts.
Dances with
History has been involved in various historical
re-enactments and television programs, standing out by the
historical precision of the pose, costumes and dances.
Dances with
History has cooperation protocols with the Sintra Teachers
Association and with the Historical Society of the
Independence of Portugal.
